Your guide will meet you at your hotel and you’ll head out to the Cocora Valley, part of Los Nevados National Natural Park, the primary location where Colombia’s national tree, the Quindío Wax Palm, can be found. These palms are the tallest palms in the world, growing as high as 200 feet. Although these endangered trees have been exported, here in their native habitat they can thrive for up to 100 years.
The misty Palm Forest is also home to many native species of birds and mammal, some of them endangered, like spectacled bears and mountain tapirs. As you climb the mountain, to your left, you’ll see the forest and the exuberant colors of orchids, bromeliads and the mosses that cover nearly every surface. To the right are the local dairy farms, family run and producing the highest quality products.
An optional activity to consider is horseback riding. Ask us about adding it to your tour!
