The OUT in Colombia team joins Queer Travel Chat to discuss culture, community, and why Colombia continues to surprise LGBTQ+ travelers

Colombia has a way of surprising people.

For many travelers, what begins as curiosity about the country quickly turns into something more, an appreciation for its warmth, complexity, creativity, and the richness of experiences it offers.

Recently, the OUT in Colombia team joined Queer Travel Chat, the podcast by Two Bad Tourists, for a conversation about gay travel in Colombia, the country’s evolving LGBTQ+ travel landscape, and what continues to make Colombia such a compelling destination.

Travelers exploring Cartagena’s historic center on an LGBTQ+ cultural journey in Colombia

In this episode, our founder Sam Castañeda Holdren is joined by Jorge Mario Rios and Miguel Ángel Patiño, bringing different voices and perspectives from our team into a conversation that reflects much of what inspires our work.

Together, we explore why Colombia continues to exceed expectations for many LGBTQ+ travelers, from vibrant city life and cultural immersion to community, food, nature, and experiences that go far beyond the typical tourist path.

We talk about Medellín’s evolution, the cultural energy that makes the city so magnetic, and why Colombia has increasingly become a destination travelers return to again and again.

But more than anything, the conversation centers on what meaningful travel can look like. Because for us, travel is not simply about seeing a place.

It is about connection, through people, stories, flavors, music, neighborhoods, and the moments that make a journey feel personal.

That spirit runs throughout the episode, whether discussing queer community spaces, food adventures, nightlife, or the role tourism can play in supporting local communities in thoughtful ways.

What We Discuss About Gay Travel in Colombia

  • Why Colombia continues to surprise LGBTQ+ travelers

  • What makes Medellín such a dynamic destination

  • Culture, food, nightlife, and community experiences in Colombia

  • How tourism can foster meaningful exchange

  • New LGBTQ+ experiences we’re developing through Queer Scout

It was especially meaningful to share this conversation as a team, because it reflects something central to how we approach travel: Colombia is best understood through multiple perspectives.

And perhaps that is part of what makes travel here so rewarding.
